Wallside Grange Care Home resident Anne Whyte celebrates her 100th Birthday with a card from the Her Majesty The Queen.

Marking a Centenary at Wallside Grange Care Home

At Wallside Grange Care Home in Tamfourhill, we like to make sure residents mark their birthdays with a fitting celebration. However, when it is a 100th birthday, cakes and balloons alone just won’t do! When we realised that Wallside resident Anne Whyte was about to reach her landmark 100 years, we set the wheels in motion to organise a special celebration.

First of all, the theme. When the Wallside Grange Care Team asked Anne what she would like to do for her 100th birthday, she requested a farm-themed party. Farming formed a large part of Anne’s life. Born in Linlithgow in 1920, Anne was the youngest of three children. After her father took over a farm in Slammanan, Anne grew up learning about and embracing farm life. From an early age, she loved helping out with all of the chores, thoroughly enjoying her time in the countryside.

An Official Card and Visitor

On the day of her 100th birthday, Anne’s friends and family joined residents and staff at Wallside Grange to mark the occasion with party hats, balloons, and a farmyard inspired birthday cake. To make the celebration even more special, Provost William Buchanan personally delivered a card and flowers to Anne on behalf of Falkirk Council. While he was at the home he also led the party in a rousing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday.’

The room was filled with particular excitement when Anne received an envelope displaying the Royal Stamp. The crowd gathered around as she opened the envelope, revealing an official birthday card from Her Majesty The Queen.

On being asked about her secret to a long and healthy life, Anne replied; “Honesty, integrity, and pure hard work on the farms. No smoking or drinking!”

Your friends and family are welcome to visit you at any time at Wallside Grange, and we will happily help you to organise celebrations to mark the special occasions in your life.
